Different yet all together

March is the "Month of the Other". I, me, other, Other, the other, the Completely Other?
If you're lost, it's not a play on words, this is what it's all about!
Targeted at secondary school pupils and apprentices in Alsace, created as part of an initiative by the Region, in close partnership with Strasbourg local education authority, "The Month of the Other" aims to develop projects in secondary schools and apprentice training centres (CFAs), with the help of associations.

The aim: to make young people aware of the need to have respect for Others with all their differences, whether they be social, cultural, religious, ethnic, linked to gender or to a handicap.

The organisers: the Alsace region and the local education authority

The partners: associations in the Alsace region

How? A catalogue, a formidable tool for educational teams, created to mobilise young people by making them fully aware that they are responsible for the actions they choose.

The catalogue of "action" sheets can be downloaded here

At the beginning of February, the "David et Jonathan" association joined forces with Ciarus to present its collaboration for the Month of the Other (Discussion meeting: issues surrounding homophobia, page 13 of the catalogue). 7 rue Finkmatt was a natural choice for the meeting because the association has been loyal to Ciarus for many years, and the values of the two associations overlap when it comes to the theme of accepting difference.

This is the chance for students to say "the other that might simply be the boy or girl in my class who does not feel good about him or herself because he or she has different sexual inclinations". It should be mentioned that the association concurs with the concern expressed by the French Ministry of Health, which is insisting on the need to "develop a strategy to prevent suicide among young people and, more particular, among young homosexuals".
