travel is characters-building

As far as Mrs Persikowski is concerned, travel is character-building for youngsters, no doubt about it! The French teacher from the Realschule in Wildeshausen has been organising school trips for more than 20 years, particularly in France.
For their first visit to Ciarus: “The teachers noticed that it was the first time that they had been given a choice at dinner! Thanks to the cooks who stepped up a gear to offer us “real French cuisine”!

“We really enjoyed the tours of Strasbourg and Colmar”.

But the key moment in this stay was their discovery of the “truly impressive” European Parliament!

On 4 June, a Euroscola day took place: young high school pupils from 20 Member States of the European Union came together in the Parliamentary chamber. The debate was on the theme of the environment.

From the visitors' gallery, the youngsters from Wildeshausen and their teachers had the opportunity to follow the debate in the language of their choice, through headphones. They were witness to a kind of dress rehearsal of the new ultra-modern voting system installed for the new elected Parliament on 7 June last.

With this trip, Mrs Persikowski and her colleague (the geography teacher) hope to have passed on to their pupils their interest in the construction of the European Union as a symbol of understanding between various countries and the respect of different cultures.
