Questions on disability

Sonnenhof Symposium:

The Sonnenhof Foundation, rich with 130 years of concrete experience in Alsace, aims to accommodate and accompany the disabled person for as long as this person or his family expresses such a wish.

The Sonnenhof study days, which took place on 04 and 05 October last on the theme, “the disabled person: between family and institution”, brought together 200 people at Ciarus. From their earliest years and at each stage in their life, subjects suffering from a disability can be accompanied not only by their family but also by a team of professionals within the framework of an institution. At which point, the establishment and maintenance of a positive relationship between the families and the specialist institution are fundamental. However, the differences in representation and projects between parents and professionals, as well as certain feelings such as the persistent guilt experienced by families, significantly complicate this collaborative relationship.

Renowned speakers in their field looked into the historic, psychological, legal and institutional dimensions of this theme. Among them were: Elisabeth ZUCMAN, doctor of functional rehabilitation, Bertrand GAUTIER, judge responsible for the protection of minors and adults under a disability, Régine SCELLES, professor of psychology at the University of Rouen, Chantal LAVIGNE, associate professor of psychology (Paris Xe), Corinne Wantz, director of the Departmental Directorate of Health and Social Affairs of Bas-Rhin, and representatives of the families of disabled

2 days of rewarding work for every participant, who was able to live on Ciarus premises where the accommodation of a disabled population is backed by a strong will and is among our aims. Offering suitable, high quality accommodation to groups of disabled holidaymakers and their carers in the month of August or December is an experience which is repeated each year. It also means taking over from institutions and educators in a different form: leisure and holidays for everyone.
